Carpet Beetle Identification

Carpet Beetles can easily be identified. They have an oval shaped body and a fully black or black with pattern of yellow and white scales. The young ones have visible hair on their body.

Carpet Beetle Life Cycle

Female member of carpet beetle family lays 90 eggs in lint. It lays eggs over a period of 2-3 weeks. Common sites for egg laying include areas where dead insects occur, in air ducts, along edges of carpeting, under baseboards, and other such locations. The eggs emerge in 10 -20 days and depending upon the food and temperature conditions around 11 months to emerge into an adult. The adult ones has a life span of 30-60 days.

Preparation Guidelines for a Carpet Beetle Treatment

1. Vacuum rugs, carpet and upholstered furniture and throw the vacuum bag immediately on completion.
2. All unwashed wool, fiber clothing should be washed or place it in a hot dryer for one hour.
3. Remove the furniture from the edges of rooms and clear the closet floors and shelves
4. Vacate the areas.
5. Do not enter in the areas during treatment and after for minimum of 4 hours or until the product dries.
6. After re-entry if possible open windows and doors for about 20 minutes.
7. Pregnant women, infants and people suffering from heart, kidney, and other such major ailments should consult doctor before service and if possible avoid the areas for at least 24 hours.
